Do you ever have something that is stuck in your life and makes you crazy?
Let me introduce you to a piece of furniture that is now a permanent resident in our home. It is a once-grand mahogany thing that is now outdated and taking up way too much space in our small apartment. We call it The Behemoth.
Our landlord does not want it moved (for reasons she did not specify). Therefore, we must keep this thing that we hate. I do not have fancy china or porcelain figurines to display...it’s not me. What in the world will I put in this thing??
I realize that there are greater things in the world to be depressed about...like the plight of the American Indians and dying baby seals. However, we all have the thing stuck in our lives that represents something that makes us sad/mad/frustrated. The Behemoth is a daily reminder to me that no matter what I do, this apartment is not my own. It further intensifies my feelings of being a foreigner here.
There is hope for all of our Behemoths, though. Perhaps we can learn something from being forced to live with a thing we hate? God has reasons for why our lives are not always how we planned. One thing I do know is that we ALWAYS benefit from His plan. So, let’s enjoy the Behemoths...and maybe stick a plant on them or something.
