(I know that's not a grammatically correct title, but this is about politics not grammar.)
Near a town in Ireland called Moneygall where former President Obama has ancestors there is a giant (for Ireland) gas station. They were so excited to find out he had roots there, they built this gas station with restaurants calling it Obama Plaza. I was on a roadtrip with the staff of our church (Open Arms). Of course there is a cardboard cutout of them in the entry, so they suggested I take a pic with “my peeps”.
While I believe in political participation for individual citizens, that is not our role with Zoe Community. One of the things I say regularly is, “we are practical not political.” There will be a woman coming to our locations who could be far right, far left, or somewhere in between. She needs our help. That’s the bottom line.
We have an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. As an organization, we don’t get into the political fight. That’s not our role or our purpose. There are many effective (and some ineffective) groups out there filling that space, and we’re thankful for them. However, our role is to train people in local communities how to safely and effectively help women in crisis pregnancy. So we say we’re practical not political.
Thank you for helping us to make a difference in the lives of so many women for so many backgrounds. You are helping us help people from all walks of life. God’s Kingdom is big. Together we’re working to make it a little bit bigger.
