Once again, we’re entering in to a new semester in Dublin. All of the colleges around town begin lectures and exams at different times, but there is a freshness in the air as Christmas holidays have come to a close and assignments the students have been working on during the break are due to be turned in (yes, most of them continue to work hard during their break).
As for the three of us, we’re very excited to be getting back to spending time with the students and growing together in faith. Each year brings things with it that feel incredibly daunting. Some of these things are real, some are made up in our own heads, and some are lies from Satan and are targeted at our insecurities.
We definitely feel insecure about our purpose in ministry. News flash: every Christian does. We know we’re not alone in that respect. More specifically, we feel the need to know what we should do in the future...where our next steps should be. This thinking, however, is definitely not faith. It is fear masquerading as the drive to have a plan. Planning is great, don’t get me wrong. It is the fear driving the planning that makes it ineffective. So to begin this year, let’s let go of fear and choose faith instead.
